Speaker 1: 00:00 I'm a big believer that what we did yesterday or last year or the year before that has really allowed us and helped us to get to where we want to go. In today's episode, I'm going to be sharing with you something that is happening, something that is changing right here, right now. If you are watching this or listening to this podcast now, you may have noticed the normal intro was not played and that is because this podcast isn't going anywhere, but the name is about to be changed. You might be wondering, Scott, why would you change the name? You are known as the amazing seller or the one that hosts the amazing seller podcast and you're absolutely right. This is over five years old and over 16 million downloads, but here's the deal. As we evolve, as we do different things, we learn different things. We as a person grow, we start to change and we don't change for the worst.
Speaker 1: 01:09 Hopefully we change for the better and everything we do is just leveling us up for the next thing. It's a stepping stone, not always easy. And this decision that I'm about to share with you was not easy, okay? But it is something that I needed to do, something that I felt a calling to do at this point in my life, in my career, okay? And this podcast has given me so many opportunities, so many great people that I was able to connect with and learn with and I still have all of those, all of those friendships, all of those relationships, all of the people that I'm connected with, whether that's listeners, whether that's people in brand creators Academy or whether that's just people that I've been on their shows or they've been on mine, it's really allowed me to grow. And now what I want to do is take this to the next level.
Speaker 1: 02:02 But I also want this to feel more here in the core of what I'm doing right now and where I see myself in the next five years and 10 years now is this topic of building a future proof business changing on this show. And I'm going to share with you what the new podcast is going to be called by the way, but it's going to be on this channel and I decided to just rebrand the name. It's going to be me still here interviewing some really cool guests, which in the next episode after this one I will be going into what to expect and what you can really take away from this process, but also how you're going to be able to benefit from this, this new change. Okay, but just understand this, over the past 18 to probably even 24 months, I have changed and you probably noticed we don't talk exclusively here about Amazon.
Speaker 1: 03:02 That is what this podcast started as and this started as somewhat of an experiment and now that experiment turned into a five year experiment and now I'm being directed to go somewhere else and it's not far off track. It's just when I started this podcast, I was also starting, or at least in the beginning stages of growing my Amazon side of my businesses. Any of you that have been watching this or listening to this podcast for any period of time? You know my backstory, you know the things that I was involved in, in the businesses that I've built and now where I have, you know where I have started something and where I am going. You're kind of following along on that journey, but that podcast, when I started it, I had no idea, no idea that it would turn into what it has become.
Speaker 1: 03:53 It's also allowed me to really see where I want to go. As I approach my fifties I'm going to be 48 years old this year and now is the time for me to reach inside here and really go to where I a hundred percent want to go as of right now. Now in five years, this can change, but I know that I will always, always be talking about building businesses that allow people to create freedom and stability in their life. That is my core. That is what I believe in. Building online businesses has allowed me to be able to raise all of my kids, all three of my kids, which one of them is 24 years old, which I haven't announced this yet, but I'm gonna announce it here as well. She is six months pregnant. My 24 year old daughter who I remember just like it was yesterday, the size of her big toe was like the size of my, not even the size of my pinky hurt and her foot was as big as my thumb.
Speaker 1: 04:51 Like she was four weeks early. I remember that very, very vividly. But now she's going to be bringing new life into the world and I'm going to be a grandfather, which is crazy. I can't believe it. It still feels like I'm in high school or I just got out of high school. I think we all would love to go back to the high school days. Right. But I wouldn't change my life for anything. And this change on the podcast, it doesn't mean anything other than we're growing. And if you've been with me since the beginning, you've grown a lot too. So going back to my daughter, it really kind of woke me up when I found out that she was expecting, I was like, wow, this is the next chapter in my life, Scott. You need to wake up every day and be energized of what you're working on.
Speaker 1: 05:38 And honestly, over the past 18 months to probably two years now, changing the topic of this podcast to more brand building is where I want to go. I just never changed the name. And why is the name a problem for me? It's not a problem. It's more or less not aligned. And honestly, when I chose the name, I never thought it would turn into what it has. So my future for this show is to really get high level guests that I want to connect with, that I can share their stories with you my way, right? The way that I want to learn. I'll go into more details on what to expect on future podcast episodes with this new name. And I'm going to share with you guys that new name here in a minute and I'll tell you exactly how that was, uh, discovered or decided on, cause that wasn't an easy process as well.
Speaker 1: 06:31 But you, you can see that over the past 18 months to two years, if you go back and you look at how we have changed, uh, right as far as content, we're talking about building brands, brands that last, strategies that are not going to be here and gone tomorrow, not platforms that are gonna be here and gone tomorrow. We're going to use those platforms as leverage. We're going to use those to get ourselves out there to create a sustainable business and we're going to get traffic and we're going to tap into some strategies. We're going to do all that stuff. We're still doing that. And that's what I love. I love building things. I love building businesses. I love helping people do the same thing. That is what I am lit up about. That is what I am fired up about. That's where I see myself in five years, in 10 years.
Speaker 1: 07:17 And you know when I was deciding to do this, I reached out to one of my mentors, also a good friend. Now actually two of them. And I'm probably going to have them on the show here to discuss this change because it's been a long time coming. I've been having these discussions for probably 18 months to two years. I just never did. And I'm like no I'll just keep the name but I'll just change the content matter and then it'll be kind of like I've changed. But the name has always kind of pulled me back to the Amazon days. And again I am still selling on Amazon. I am still using that model. I am just not building a business on that model and I don't think anyone should, I had someone on my coffee talk this morning and they were asking about starting a drop shipping business.
Speaker 1: 08:02 And the first thing I said was are you building a drop shipping business or are you building a brand that you could sell products, drop shipping, FBA affiliate. You see? So that's where I want to be. That's where I see myself building businesses. Cause I've been doing that for over 19 years now. Honestly, I've just been known for the Amazon thing. So when I reached out to my mentors, Pat Flynn and Jamie masters, uh, two great people I admire, I have looked up to and now I can consider them friends. I've hung out with each of them. Actually both of them spoke at my event, a brand accelerator live, which again, never would have happened if I never did the podcast. But do you see what that was titled to brand accelerator live? I have an Academy now called brand creators, brand creators Academy. We made that shift, right?
Speaker 1: 08:55 But when I was talking to my mentors, I'm like, you know, there's just something about the name. It sounds like all, when you listen to that name, the amazing seller, all you think about is selling. And I don't want to only be focusing on selling. It's part of a business. It's not the only part of the business and probably not the most important part of the business. So when I'm reaching out to high level guests and I say, Hey, do you wanna come on my show? And they're like, yeah, what's your show's name? And I'm like the amazing seller. Like, well, I don't want to just talk about selling 'em I'm more about building a business or I'm, I'm more about mindset so you can build a business. I want to tap into more high level people, but also people that are like you and I.
Speaker 1: 09:32 And so to me, the name just wasn't aligned with where I want to go. So when I said to my mentors, I'm struggling with this, I'm struggling with this decision to change the name. And they were like, okay, well where do you want to be in five years? And I said, I want to be helping people build businesses and brands that allow them to have stability and the freedom to choose what they want to do. And that's what I, that's what lights me up. I want to build businesses as well. I don't want to ever give that up. I'm building two brands right now in brand creators Academy, not because I have to, because I want to. And because I love the build. I love the build. And if you've ever listened to any of my past stuff or you know my story, I come from building homes and remodeling and building things with my hands.
Speaker 1: 10:22 So I want to do that same thing just in business. Right? And I love it. Like that's what gets me excited. How to get attention in your market, how to build an email list, right? Like how to nurture the audience, how to build a relationship with the audience. That's what I love to talk about. Right? I don't necessarily like to talk about how to ship your inventory into FBA. I don't really get excited about that. It's part of the process, but I don't enjoy that. So why not focus on more of my strengths and what I want to be focusing on and the build. So that's what I really want to do. So they said, so you know, where do you want to be? And I said I want to be doing that. I also want to be inspiring kids. I might want to speak at high schools, I might want to speak at colleges, which I've had offers to do that.
Speaker 1: 11:06 But just kind of held back a little bit, right? I want to start broadening my reach. I want to reach more people, not just in the Amazon world or the eCommerce world. So I had to make that decision. Scott, if I do this, am I going to now kind of like turn people away? And my mentors are like, no, your people are going to follow you wherever you go. It doesn't matter what your name is. And I said, yeah, but it doesn't feel right to me. And so they said, imagine in five years they actually, they both said something similar to this, but Pat specifically said this, and this really stuck with me, Scott, if you were to walk into a coffee shop and then 10 minutes later, two guys walked in and guy knew you and one guy didn't, what would that one person explain you as?
Speaker 1: 11:58 And I said, right now they'd probably say, he's the guy that helps you get started on Amazon still to this day, even though I've been talking a lot about brand building. And he said, well, you need to start changing that messaging and you need to go all in on that, on what you want to be known for as far as to help people. And I said, the other thing is, I mean, I wrote a book, the take action effect, because it's all about getting out of your own way so you can take charge of your own life. I want to be known for that guy. I want to be known for the guy that gave me a kick in the butt that got you going. And you're like, you know what? If it wasn't for that moment, I never would have started and I never would've been where I am today.
Speaker 1: 12:36 I want to be that guy. And so it became clear, I need to do this for me, but I also need to do it for you and I need to do it for all of the new people that I'll be attracting. All of the people that I want to attract that are either frustrated in their job or their life or their business that I can help. So I need to do this in order to feel 100% congruent with where I'm going. And so that's the reason. And so the reason why I'm not like moving this podcast feed and putting it on another podcast, there's no need to, the content has changed over the past. Like I said, almost two years now. Nothing is really changing. Well I take that back. There is a few things changing but for the better. All right and I'm going to be sharing that in the next episode.
Speaker 1: 13:24 So I definitely want you to pay attention and and attend that session, whether it's on YouTube or whether it's on the podcast. Do that for me. This is a big moment for me, but also hopefully for you and I am super excited to share with you what we have working on right now that is going to be just amazing. And some of the guests I already have lined up and the reasoning on why I decided to do this. And the other thing I just want to say is like I have no idea where this is going to lead me, but I need to trust in here that this is where I'm supposed to go. And I know in my gut it is, and if you've read my book the take action effect, you'll know that these are what we call take action moments. There's a little bit of resistance, actually quite a bit of resistance at the beginning and now I'm embracing it and I know there's a little bit of fear on the other side there, but anytime that I've ever went through something like this, it's always, always, even if it didn't work out perfectly, it taught me something that led me to where I needed to go.
Speaker 1: 14:28 So I want this to also be a lesson to you. If you're not feeling 100% congruent with where you're going, why are you doing it? Jamie masters said to me, why are you going to stay where you are if you know you want to go somewhere in five years? Why wouldn't you start building things right now to get you to where you want to go? Why would you build a temporary home if you really want to build that home? And that was a great question and I said you're absolutely right. So that's what I'm about to do guys. Okay. So in the next episode you probably want to know the name too, right? I'm going to give you the guys that, but here's the deal. In the next episode, I'm going to go through all of that stuff as far as a little bit more on this, but we're also going to talk about what you can expect and some really cool things that I have planned and also things that we're going to be doing together.
Speaker 1: 15:17 All right? So that is what I'm going to be sharing with you. So let's talk about the new name. Okay. And at first I was like, you know what? And someone had said, Scott, why don't you just call it the amazing brand or brands, you know, cause Scott, then it's kind of like the amazing, like you've done that, the amazing brands, right? That would be good. And I had some people say, Scott, you don't change the name. Do not. It's the brand. You cannot change that name. And I was, and at first I was like, yeah, you're right, you're right. But it still just didn't feel right guys. It didn't feel right. So I needed to again listen to my, to my heart, into my core and my wife, you know, she was also someone that said, Scott, it's time. Like you've been saying this for 18 months, now it is time.
Speaker 1: 16:01 Anytime that you've resisted it, it's always, it's always worked out right. It's always taken you to where you want to go. So then we were like, okay, maybe we call it the brand creators podcast. That would be probably good. And it would, and we almost settled on that, almost settled on that name. And then we started going back to the core of Scott. What did Scott want to do when he was 17 years old? And he had no one saying that he had to be something. He had the freedom to think, what would I want to do? What would I want to be? Well, back then Scott had long hair and wanted to be in a rock band. Scott wanted to be a rockstar. Yeah, that's right. A rockstar and I just loved the stage. I loved the people. I loved seeing people get entertained but also enjoy themselves and also feel free in a sense because to me being a rockstar doesn't mean it's like all the stuff that we might think it's, you know, drugs and alcohol and all of that, stuff like that.
Speaker 1: 17:09 That could be a side of it, but that's not the side I was chasing. The side I was chasing was I wanted to number one and I didn't know it at the time. I wanted to entertain, but I also wanted people to be able to feel free because music to me is freeing. Right. When you listen to music, you kind of just escape or, I mean I do this a lot for de-stressing. If I want to distress, and I did this last year, I had a lot of stuff going on, which in one of the upcoming episodes I'm going to dive into some of the things that I struggled with last year that I got through, but it was a pretty stressful year. But all of that is paying off and it's also allowed me to see where I need to go and what I need to focus and bring myself back to basics, bring myself back to my roots.
Speaker 1: 17:53 So back to the rockstar, wanting to be a rock star, play play guitar, played lead guitar. And so as we got talking about it, it just kind of came to us actually, it kind of came to my wife and she's like, what do you think of rock your brand? And I'm like, you know, I really liked that rock your brand podcast. And from there we sat on it, I liked it even more. And then we finalized it and we said that is the name because it feels right. It doesn't mean we're growing rock bands. It means we're creating brands that are going to rock it for you. And so the name of the new show that we are rebranding is called the rock your brand podcast. I've got a brand new intro I just recorded. You're going to hear that on the next episode, so make sure that you stay tuned for that.
Speaker 1: 18:51 And the other thing is I would love for you to reach out to me. Okay? And if you're not part of our take action morning crew, which is something else that we started and I've got some really cool things lined up for that. You definitely want to become a part of that because inside of that, of that group, you know, we're asking for, you know, feedback we're asking for all of like the questions, like what can we do to help you better? So you want to make sure that you're part of that. And in order to be part of that, you need to show up over on our Facebook page or our YouTube channel. All right. And I will drop links in the show notes to this episode. I'm trying not to use the amazing seller stuff anymore because we have to redirect all of that.
Speaker 1: 19:35 So there's a lot of stuff behind the scenes that are happening. So the your brand podcast is the podcast, but the overall brand, because the overall brand was the amazing seller as well, is now brand creators and brand creators.com. We purchased that domain name when we decided to do brand creators Academy and then we just sat on it and we had our brand growth validation checklist there, but that now is going to be our home. That is going to be our home base. That is where all the podcasts will be. So rock your brand podcast is going to be on brand creators. It's an extension of that. Okay. And so we are, as of today, retiring the name, the amazing seller. And I gotta be honest with you guys. I loved it when I had it for awhile, but it feels really good to say that was yesterday and today we are brand creators or for the podcast, the Rocky brand podcast.
Speaker 1: 20:33 So guys, I really do want to hear from you guys. I want to hear more as we, as we do this, as we evolve and make this show more for you, how can I help serve you? That is what it's going to be all about. But until I really want you guys to understand that, again, I'm sharing this with you because I want you to know what's happening from this point on, but I want you to also see that sometimes you gotta, you gotta embrace the change. You got to embrace that little itch and you know what? Something that's working now is great. Use it. But when you start to feel that you need that change, you need to, you need to think through that. You need to ask yourself those questions. It took me probably close to two years to make this a final decision.
Speaker 1: 21:20 So it's totally normal. But I want you to understand that once you do embrace it, like I just did here and I publicly said it, it feels pretty darn good. And the rock, your brand podcast is official. Now you guys know about it and I've been holding that under my, under my cap for a little while. But it feels really good. It almost feels like a weight has been lifted and now I can get to work doing what I truly, truly am enjoying rate now. And that is helping people like you build a brand, a future-proof brand that allows you stability and freedom in your life to do as you choose. All right guys. So, uh, that is it. That is going to wrap up this episode. The next episode, I will go into more detail about what to expect, but I just wanted to thank you for watching, for listening and also for being one of our podcast listeners for all these years. And I am really excited for us because we've got an amazing journey ahead of us. All right, so until next time, take care. Take action and I'll talk to you soon.
