RYB 946 How To Overcome Procrastination and Take Action? – Jam Session

Today we're going to talk all about how to overcome procrastination and how to take action in order to see the results that you've been working so hard for. You're never going to be able to get rid of the feeling of overwhelm or fear.

Life will constantly throw you curveballs, and you have to learn to adjust and adapt as they come. That's just how life is, and it's important to be willing to accept that. Things will always come up, and you have to be willing to learn how to manage the change, even if it's not what you had planned. Today I'm going to walk you through five steps of how you can overcome procrastination and see the results you've worked so hard for.  

Identify Why You Procrastinate

It can be so easy to procrastinate, especially when life gets tough. A lot of people put things related to their business off simply because they are afraid that their hard work won't pay off or that they won't succeed. This often happens when a person has failed in the past or faced trials related to their business before. 

Trust me, I understand just how difficult it can be to overcome the fear of failing again and being rejected. To help, I'm going to review five steps that you can follow that will help you in the process.

#1 Get real with yourself

In order to see process, you first have to be able to admit that you're procrastinating. It's important to understand why you're putting something off and refusing to set up a routine in order to get something done. Whether it's because you're afraid, don't have the time, or just don't want to do something.

You are not a bad person for procrastinating. In fact, most people at some point in their lives struggle with this. I even struggle with getting things done at times, and that's why I have to set up boundaries for myself in order to make sure that I hold myself accountable. If I don't, I usually will put the tasks off.

How to Avoid Holding Yourself Back

The first part of getting help is by admitting that you have a problem. Once you've identified the problem, you can create a plan to fix it and see the results that you want.

#2 Identify Your Twelve-Month Goal or Target

What is the goal that you're working towards in the next year? Don't go beyond that. You want to keep it simple. It's important to figure out what your target is, so you know what you're working towards. From there, you can work backward and turn your big go into actionable steps that you work on every day. It's also very important to be realistic with your goal. Set yourself up for success by ensuring that you'll be able to hit your goal or get really close.

#3 Why have you stopped taking action?

You have to be able to identify why you have procrastinated up until this point and haven't been able to accomplish your goal yet. It's important to set up a routine and give yourself time every day so you can accomplish your goal. 

You don't need hours each day if you can't give yourself that much time. Just be sure to remain consistent. I also recommend taking some time to reflect on your past and identify if you have a fear of trying something because you've failed in the past. If that's the case and you've been able to pinpoint the issue, it'll be easier to fix the problem.

Figure out the reasons why you're holding back from achieving your goals. There may be some things that come to the surface that you need to deal with. This is actually a good thing. You'll discover that this will be able to help you grow and improve as you move forward and grow in the process.

It's easy to compare yourself with other people in the same niche. However, you need to give yourself credit for what you're accomplished in the past and what you bring to the table. Once you've identified the problems you've been faced with, you can work on correcting the way that you think.

When you accomplish something, it's important to acknowledge your achievements. Even small successes will go a long way as you work to complete your goals. You have to work to control the overwhelm that you may feel in order to get there, though. Overwhelm can easily lead to procrastination. But you're not doing yourself any favors if you don't learn to take action and continue moving forward even when things get difficult.

The Power of Commitment to Yourself

#4 Create a detailed but simple action plan for the next 30 days

The next step is to schedule some time to create your 30-day roadmap. It's important to start small and create a one-month plan. It's much easier to stay laser-focused when you have a detailed short-term plan. 

You'll be able to break it down into simple action steps that you can implement one day at a time. Don't get carried away. Stick to thirty days at a time, or you'll find yourself getting overwhelmed with everything that needs to be done.

#5 Make a commitment to yourself and stick with it 

In order to see the results that you want, you have to make a commitment to yourself and make sure that you hold yourself accountable. You have to take ownership in order to see the results that you want so you can focus on taking action and getting things done. 

No one can do that for you. You have total control over your own actions. You have to get this right before you can grow our business. Then, you have to learn how to take action steps so you don't feel stuck spinning your wheels and feeling helpless.

It's also important to learn how to avoid distractions when you're struggling with procrastinating. There are so many things coming at you and you have to be able to tune them out so you can stay laser-focused on your goals. Give yourself rules of when you can be on social media, and the rest of your time avoid it.

You have to be protective over your time and keep it structured, so you're making the most progress in the short amount of time that you have to focus on building your brand. You can't be everywhere at once, so it's important to be aware of your time and using it wisely.

I also recommend cleaning your email inbox. Get it where it's manageable and you're only getting messages from people that you want to be receiving emails from. 

Go ahead and unsubscribe from any people that you want to filter out. This will help keep you focused on your brand and accomplishing your goals instead of getting sidetracked on other shiny objects.
