TAS 796: How To Stay Motivated When Not Getting Results? Ask Scott #248

(00:00): Have you ever felt like you just weren't getting the results that you were trying to achieve? You got frustrated, you said, you know, what is it even worth it to continue to move forward in doing whatever you're doing? Have you ever felt like that? I know I have and in this episode I'm going to share with you five steps. So this way here, you don't let that ever happen to you again and you set yourself up for success. So if that sounds interesting to you, something that you can benefit from. Stick around cause that's what we're going to talk about on this show.

(00:39): Well Hey, Hey, what's up everyone? Welcome back to another episode of the amazing seller podcast. This is episode number seven 96 in session number two 48 Avast. Scott, this is where I answer your questions here on the podcast and I'm going to do it again here today and I am fired up because this is something that I think

(00:59): a lot of people struggle with and I think there's a very simple tweak. All right, and that's what we're going to be talking about. Now this question has come in numerous times. It's even come in, uh, inside of our brand creators Academy because there's so many different things that we want to do, right? And then we start looking at what is the result that we're trying to achieve. And in most cases it's like, well, I want to create a brand that's successful and that brings in a lot of money. Like that's generally what people are trying to do, right? We want freedom. We're building businesses and brands so we can have this freedom lifestyle, which, well, if you've ever built a business before or uh, you know, no other people that have, it's generally not going to be, Oh, I'm just going to sit on the beach and you know, drink some peanut coladas.

(01:49): I mean, that might be nice for a week or two, but I don't know about you, but I like to build things. I like to see results. And no matter what you're doing in life, we always want to see the result. We're putting time and effort into something to get a result. All right. So before we jump into that, I did on a first off, if you have not met me for the first time. Well, hi, my name is Scott Voelker and I am here to help you build a future proof business so you can create the ultimate freedom. And that's what this show's about. But again, I just want to say thank you for stopping by. If you have a question that you want me to answer on an upcoming Ascot session, all you have to do is either go to the amazing seller.com forward slash ask, and you can leave me a voicemail there.

(02:31): Just leave your first name, where you're tuning in from, and then a brief question and I'll do my best to answer yet. All right, so that's all you gotta do. If you're watching this on YouTube, just drop it in the comments and again, I'll read it and if I think that other people will benefit from it from this question, well then I'll go ahead and I will record it and we'll do this again. All right, so that's all you gotta do. All right. So let's kind of get to it. All right, let's get right into it so you guys can get this and then just with it, right? And just start really plugging this into your own mindset because it is a mindset thing. All right? A lot of people look at and go, no, it's just cause I'm not lucky. No, that's not true.

(03:09): A lot of times if you trace your steps back, it's probably because you either didn't set a realistic expectation or you didn't validate what the result was going to be or what type of work it was really going to take to get to the, the victory, right? The success, the end of the road, which by the way, there is no end of the road. All right? There's always going to be something else. There's always going to be a bigger Hill to climb. And once you get into this whole online, you know, business space or just business in general, it's kind of addicting in a good way for me. I enjoy it. I love it. All right? So I don't ever see myself as retiring, uh, just building new things. All right? So let's kind of get to it. So what you need to ask yourself and I want you to ask yourself is what is the result you're trying to achieve?

(03:58): And I'm going to give you a couple of stories, uh, that are my personal stories and how this has affected me. Okay? So let me just ask you though, where do you want to be? And just, I want you to, to look at that at that thing that you're trying to go for, that you're trying to go after. Like what is the result? Okay? And if it's a, well, I want to go out there. I want to make $100,000 next year so I can replace my income. Now there's a bunch of different ways that we can do that, right? But you might be like, well, I'm going to go ahead and I'm going to do what Scott has said in the past and I'm going to build a website and I'm going to start getting traffic to that website by posting content. Uh, and uh, and you know, just doing that, right?

(04:39): And then you're like, Scott, I've been doing it for three months now, or six months, whatever. I actually had one guy that said he's been doing it for over 13 months and he's like, I'm just not seeing the results. But here's the thing that we need to understand. The money doesn't come just from the traffic, right? That's what we're trying to do to get that traffic. So then we can turn that into dollars by monetizing it. That's, that's what we're doing. Okay. But it does start with the traffic, at least in my eyes. You can start with a product and I've done it that way, but then you've got to build, you know, some traffic assets around it. All right? But so let's just say that that's the goal. $100,000. Well, realistically, okay. I would tell you, you're probably not going to build a content site over the next 12 months and make $100,000.

(05:26): Okay? The expectations are just not real. And you might say, well, Scott, people are saying that a, I can build a physical product business and make $100,000 next year. I would love love to interview anyone that has started a physical products business in year one. Okay, and I'm talking about average people like you and I, not someone that is, that is a, you know, full of investor money, right? I'm not talking about those guys. Those guys can throw away money and then just replenish. That's not what I'm talking about. I'm talking about you and I, right? We go ahead. We have five or $10,000 at our disposal that we want to invest into a physical product and we'd go ahead and we say, you know what? We're going to turn this into a business. I have not seen any business successfully that's been able to do that.

(06:14): Now there are some exceptions, right? Someone might hit a home run, right? But it's not that common. Okay? Because here's the deal. When you have a physical product business, even though you're bringing in money, you're spending money and then you're replenishing inventory and then you're relaunching new PR or you're relaunching old products and then creating new products, right? So there's all of that stuff that has to go into it. And the businesses that really, really Excel are the ones that reinvest their profits back into the business to help it grow. And where the payoff really is, is when they sell the business. Anyone that has sold a business will tell you the payday came from selling the business. All right. And I've got something that I'm going to be sharing here, uh, probably shortly and this will validate exactly what I am saying. Okay? Uh, because uh, I'm going through something with this right now and I can't share anything yet, but I will be all right.

(07:12): So stay tuned to this channel and this will probably be a good time to say, if you are not subscribed to this podcast, if you are not subscribed to YouTube, you might want to do that. So this way here, you can stay connected and I can share all this stuff with you, all right? But that's generally where the payoff is. But the thing where the content site would be like, it's less investment upfront, but we can build that over 12 months and after 12 months, once we start getting traffic, we start identifying the, uh, the different revenue streams that we're going to be forming. And we can do those in a variety of different ways. Then we could potentially get to our, you know, our goal of $100,000. Now we might not get there the first year. We might get there year two or maybe year three, right?

(07:56): But we need to understand that there's certain little small wins along the way that we need to be measuring. All right? Going back to the one guy that said, Scott, I've been publishing now for 13 months. I'm like, okay, 13 months, how many pieces of content have you created? And he's like, ah, 13 right? So basically one a month, okay, that's good. But we all know that, well, if you don't know, you know, now you need to publish more than 13 pieces of content. I've got something, I call it 52 X strategy for content and that is create one piece of content per week. All right? And uh, Jesse from us still, it actually was a podcast guest. He also has a really great YouTube channel growing very fast, but he did that exact strategy 52 weeks. But he committed to doing that without even looking at the numbers.

(08:46): So the thing is, is if you're going at this thing thinking I'm going to go ahead and uh, and make $100,000 next year because the guy with the Lamborghini on, um, on his video, on the ad that popped up, made me feel as though I could do it while we both know that's probably not reality. Okay. W we all know that. You've heard the saying, right? If it's too good to be true, it probably is. It's probably probably too good to be true, right? I mean, come on. It's the same thing like, Oh, can you win the lottery? Yeah. How many people do. Okay. So again, we just need to be real and I'm being real with you. Okay. Now, can you go out there and can you flip product on eBay and make $50,000 next year? Yeah, you probably could. You're going to work though. Okay.

(09:29): Anything that we're doing, we're going to work. All right. So let me get into these five things here. So I'm getting a little off. I'm getting a little off topic here a little bit. Not really, but I do have something that I want to follow here. Um, let me give you an example here. I wanted to share a couple of examples. Uh, so when I, uh, when I started, uh, let's see, when I was 40 years old, I started to, uh, get, uh, into health. I wanted to lose some weight. I was, uh, you know, I was, I wasn't really, I never was really over overweight, but I was just starting to look like a dad bod, you know what I mean? You dads out there, know what I mean? Right. We're getting a little bit in here and all that, right? And I'm like, you know what, I just, I want to feel better and stuff.

(10:09): So when I was 40 I'm 47 now. I just got dialed in. But up to that point, I dabbled and I didn't blame anybody about my results. I didn't say, Oh well it's just my genetics, or Oh, it's just this. I knew why. Right. I didn't put in enough work. I didn't, I wasn't restrictive enough on my diet. Like I knew what I had to do. I just didn't commit to it. And the same thing goes, if you've been doing something, if you've been, if you're watching this, it's probably because you've been trying to build your business and it's just not where it, where you want it to be. There's a couple of reasons why. And the reason why is probably because either you have not validated your strategy, your market, okay. Or you haven't been doing enough. Okay. It's one or the other, in my opinion.

(10:51): That's just what I've seen. And you know, when you're looking at the result that you want to achieve, like let's say that you're like, well Scott, I would love to have a, let's say a 200,000 people visit my website next year. Okay, that's good. All right. And you've got to break that down. But what we first need to do is we need to validate that the market even has that much traffic, right? If you just go, Oh, I think I'm going to go into the model train market and you don't know and I don't know about that market, I didn't identify anything in that market as of yet, but I probably will in the future. That's a good market I think. I think we got to validate it. So what we want to, what we want to do here is we want to validate that beforehand.

(11:30): Uh, because if we validate it, then we know that at least it's been done before, it's been done before in that market. So now all we gotta do is become a better resource and go after the low hanging fruit. And that's what we teach inside of brand creators Academy is we want to create a lot of little traffic assets and we're going to spread them out. There are little pieces of real estate that bring people back to our hub, our home base. All right, so if you haven't validated your market, I am going to encourage you to do that and I've got a free resource for you. If you go to brand creators.com again, that's brand creators.com I will drop it in the description or in the show notes of this episode. Go there. It's a brand growth validation checklist. There's also a video there of me walking you through the process of a few different brands that I am validating.

(12:22): Okay, so this way here, there is no guesswork. We already know it because we did the validation. Okay? It's so important that you do that. That way we're not guessing. Okay, we know that it's achievable. Okay, and now the question would be like, well, I've been doing all the work, Scott, but it's not. It's not working. Then I would question that. I would say. Okay. What kind of work have you done? How frequently have you posted content? How frequently have you posted content that's being searched for? Okay. And what have you done to amplify your content? Have you built the email list? Have all of that stuff. Okay. Um, so that's what I would do. All right. Now let me go onto another, uh, another example here. Um, I'm going to say, I'm just going to use the, the name Beth. Okay. It's, I just made up the name cause I just wanted to, I didn't want to call someone out, but, and there's many people that have done this.

(13:11): All right. They're like Scott, you know, you talk about building an email list and then from there you're able to drive traffic. And I did that. I built an email list. But, um, I tried to sell my product but it didn't sell really well. I sold like two items and I had an email list of 3000 people. Right. Well, okay, there's two things. Number one, the email list. How did you build the email list? What did you well, I gave away an iPad. What's your product? I sell bass fishing lures. Okay. iPad. Anyone's going to sign up for whether they're inefficient or not, right? So we need to fix that problem. That's a targeting problem. Okay, now let's, let's go the other way. Well, Scott, what I did was I built the list and I did use a, uh, maybe it's a giveaway for the ultimate fishing kit.

(13:59): I did that and I got a whole bunch of people, they were interested in it. And what I did was I emailed them as soon as the contest was over and I said, here, buy my stuff. No, that's, that's not gonna work either. Okay. Now, you know, can you sell some products that way? Yes. You'd have to be aggressive and then you're going to know your list and then you're going to get, you know, just you're going to get flack from it. You don't want to do that. What you want to do, you want to build the list and you want to nurture the list and you want to give them resources. That's why we talk all about building these content resources and assets so we can then amplify them later and amplifying. It just means I'm sending traffic to them. All right? If you're watching this video right now, you might have been sent to this video from an email that I sent you, okay?

(14:43): It might've said, Hey, do you struggle with feeling down when you don't get results? And then if someone, if someone thinks that, which a lot of us have, you're like, yeah, and you're like, try this next time or the next time this happens, or something like that. And then in the email I'd say, Hey, I just shot a quick video. Uh, you know about how to get through, uh, being disappointed when you're not getting results, you know, uh, I've had this experience myself in the past and this is how I get through it, right? And that's it. And then I would list the five things, which I'm going to give you here in a second. Okay? That's what I would do. So let me ask you a question before I move on any further. Okay. If you're watching this video and you feel like that or have felt like that, drop it in the comments.

(15:27): I want to know, just let me know. Have you ever dealt with that? And if you haven't, tell me what is the secret? How don't you feel like that? Right? So just drop that in the comment. I want to get a little bit of interaction here with you. All right? But that happens a lot when we're like, well, it's not working. The reason why a lot of times it's not working is because it's operator error, right? We've all heard that before. Okay. It's generally something that we've either done or we've missed or we haven't stayed consistent. All of that stuff. The only person I could blame for not getting in shape when I was in my early forties there, which I got in great shape. I didn't sanity. Uh, I don't know if you guys ever heard of Beachbody and insanity and P90X. I got like dialed in, but I had to get committed and I had to stay the course even though I wasn't seeing results for the first month.

(16:13): Right. But I was putting in the work that's frustrating to put in the work and go. It's just not, I don't know. I don't see it. The scale is not moving. My body's not changing, right? We have to stay the course. As long as we know that the results can be achieved, we know that the results can be achieved and that's a big one, right? So all right, let's move on. Now, let me go ahead and give you these, these five steps, okay. Now, number one, you need to identify what is the result you are looking for. What is that result? Okay? Is it to make $100,000? That's great. Put that there. That's your Mark. But that's not necessarily your target rate. Now that is going to be every single day you got other smaller targets that we're going to lead up to that bigger target number to create smaller wins that you can achieve.

(16:59): This could be pick out my domain name and get it registered with GoDaddy and get my website set up. You can't, you can't win if you don't get in the game, right? So we gotta get through these hurdles. Okay? And we need to break it down, or as I call it, chunking it down. Okay? So, all right. Number three, stay focused and consistent. Repeat that. Stay focused and consistent. You need to do that. I can't stress that enough. Do you realize I have recorded, this is 796 episodes and 248 Ascot sessions. Okay. When I was going in the beginning here, 56 episodes, 56 episodes before I made a dime before I made a dime. And that dime was just a small affiliate commission. It wasn't even much, but I started to see the traffic increase, but it took time. Okay? It took time. There's a brand right now that we've been building now for three years.

(18:04): We hit over 2 million page views last year. We're averaging 150 to 200,000 uniques per month, but it started with one blog post with four visitors, then 10 and a hundred for every day or every week, whatever you're going to sign up to in your own mind, you've got to commit and you gotta be consistent. You gotta be consistent. All right? And then number four, have real expectations. What are those expectations? Not I'm going to make $100,000 in 30 days. We know that's not real expectations. That's just make believe, okay? It's not, we all know that. So you need to have real expectations. What are those? So it's really smart for you to sit down from this video and just get a notepad and put their big target. And then what are the small wins along the way that's going to get you to that target and what's a realistic goal that you're setting for yourself?

(19:00): Okay, so that's definitely an exercise I would recommend doing. And then number five is continue to take action every single day. Let me repeat that. Take action every single day. And then you will have something like this happen. And this is a book I wrote on this topic because it's so darn important. You will get the effect from taking action and it will start to, it will start to explode and momentum will start to build, and then you'll get more confidence. And then you'll want to do it more. It's like anything, but you gotta get through those, those sticking points or those hard points, right? Or those, those times that could be really, really, you know, discouraging to you. And we've all been there, okay? But when it happens, you got to ask yourself those questions. All right? So let's recap real quick. Number one, identify what is the result you are looking for.

(19:51): Number two, create smaller wins to measure your results. Okay? Number three, stay focused and be consistent, okay? Number four, have real expectations, okay? None of these made up ones or none of these ones that you're seeing on an advertisement on Facebook. Okay? And then number five, continue to take action daily, okay? Daily, you need to take action daily. And I did another video. Uh, in a, in an episode, uh, it was seven 93, and the title was how to be more productive and grow your business. And a lot of it is taking time. I'm saying like an hour and sit down and map out your week and then break that down into days. Okay. Every single time you sit down at your desk, you should have a plan of what you're going to be working on. Have a plan of what you're going to be doing for that hour.

(20:41): I get a lot of people that say, Scott, I work a full time job. I don't have a lot of time. It's okay. It's, it's okay. Been there. Okay. I built a house when I was in the construction field working 60 plus hours a week. I built a house on the side in 11 months because I wanted that house and I wanted to do it with my own two hands and I did right? But I found the time. We all can carve out an hour a day. Okay. Uh, so find that one hour, spend that first one hour mapping out your week of all those little steps, all of those little results that you're going to be getting, all of the things that you're going to be working towards, the result that you're going after. And then from there, every day you're just going to look at see what's on that page for that day and you're going to do it and you're going to do it consistently.

(21:24): All right, so that's what you're going to do there. If this all sounds like, well, Scott, I love the idea of building out a brand with all of these different components and mapping everything out and chunking everything down and you want some help with that. I do have a playbook and it's called brand creators the playbook and it's divided up into six different parts and one of the main parts that we focus on before anything as far as like building anything is really the validation process. It is so, so critical. So if you would like a copy of that, all you have to do is head over to brand creators, book.com again, that's brand creators, book.com it's a digital download, but you can actually print it out. I recommend you print it out. It's 107 pages with examples and screenshots and really how to do everything from the very beginning to setting everything up to then growing and scaling that brand.

(22:21): So I definitely recommend checking that out and yes, you will buy me a cup of coffee and yes, I will enjoy that. All right, so that is going to wrap up this episode. Scott, this is where I answer your questions here on the podcast and I'm going to do it again here today and I am fired up because this is something that I think

Speaker 1: 00:59 a lot of people struggle with and I think there's a very simple tweak.

Speaker 1: 01:49 I mean, that might be nice for a week or two, but I don't know about you, but I like to build things.

Speaker 1: 02:31 Just leave your first name, where you're tuning in from, and then a brief question and I'll do my best to answer yet.

Speaker 1: 03:09 A lot of times if you trace your steps back, it's probably because you either didn't set a realistic expectation or you didn't validate what the result was going to be or what type of work it was really going to take to get to the, the victory, right? The success, the end of the road, which by the way, there is no end of the road. All right? There's always going to be something else. There's always going to be a bigger Hill to climb. And once you get into this whole online, you know, business space or just business in general, it's kind of addicting in a good way for me. I enjoy it. I love it. All right? So I don't ever see myself as retiring, uh, just building new things. All right? So let's kind of get to it. So what you need to ask yourself and I want you to ask yourself is what is the result you're trying to achieve?

Speaker 1: 03:58 And I'm going to give you a couple of stories, uh, that are my personal stories and how this has affected me.

Speaker 1: 04:39 And then you're like, Scott, I've been doing it for three months now, or six months, whatever.

Speaker 1: 05:26 Okay?

Speaker 1: 06:14 Now there are some exceptions, right?

Speaker 1: 07:12 So stay tuned to this channel and this will probably be a good time to say, if you are not subscribed to this podcast, if you are not subscribed to YouTube, you might want to do that.

Speaker 1: 07:56 But we need to understand that there's certain little small wins along the way that we need to be measuring.

Speaker 1: 08:46 So the thing is, is if you're going at this thing thinking I'm going to go ahead and uh, and make $100,000 next year because the guy with the Lamborghini on, um, on his video, on the ad that popped up, made me feel as though I could do it while we both know that's probably not reality. Okay.

Speaker 1: 09:29 Anything that we're doing, we're going to work.

Speaker 1: 10:09 So when I was 40 I'm 47 now.

Speaker 1: 10:51 That's just what I've seen.

Speaker 1: 11:30 Uh, because if we validate it, then we know that at least it's been done before, it's been done before in that market.

Speaker 1: 12:22 Okay, so this way here, there is no guesswork.

Speaker 1: 13:11 All right.

Speaker 1: 13:59 I did that and I got a whole bunch of people, they were interested in it.

Speaker 1: 14:43 It might've said, Hey, do you struggle with feeling down when you don't get results?

Speaker 1: 15:27 I want to know, just let me know.

Speaker 1: 16:13 Right.

Speaker 1: 16:59 This could be pick out my domain name and get it registered with GoDaddy and get my website set up.

Speaker 1: 18:04 We hit over 2 million page views last year.

Speaker 1: 19:00 Okay, so that's definitely an exercise I would recommend doing.

Speaker 1: 19:51 Number two, create smaller wins to measure your results.

Speaker 1: 20:41 I get a lot of people that say, Scott, I work a full time job.

Speaker 1: 21:24 All right, so that's what you're going to do there.

Speaker 1: 22:21 So I definitely recommend checking that out and yes, you will buy me a cup of coffee and yes, I will enjoy that. All right, so that is going to wrap up this episode.
